It bought Bernardo Yorba's Rancho La Sierra holdings and set out the Rancho Temescal grant and the South Riverside colony, which was originally a citrus growers' cooperative. The water rights to Temescal Creek, its tributaries, and Lee Lake were also purchased. To transport the water to the town, large dams and complex pipes were erected.
